The Brief

Vela was launching direct-to-consumer and needed packaging that could sit credibly next to established specialty brands at retail while telling the story of their sourcing philosophy. The lineup launches with five origins.

The Approach

Jim built the system around an origin-coded colour family (each origin gets its own accent hue) united by a consistent structural layout: wordmark at top, origin information in the mid-section, a hand-drawn origin map at the base. The craft paper substrate reinforces the sourcing narrative without being cliché.

The Outcome

Vela launched in four Vancouver independent cafés and one grocery chain. The packaging has been shared organically in over 600 Instagram posts in the first three months of retail availability.
